Issues with SATA + siI3112 + Seagate SATA disk.

Hello fellow Debians :)

--

I been frustrated for some time now.

My Debain box have been highly unstable under high load.
I get an full lockup, only an full hw reboot resort it.

I been playing with various kernels/compiles.

Se far I found the following relevant info:

http://www.tzone.org/~vandry/howto/asus-a7n8x-sata.html
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=140343&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=a7n8x&sid=b8e9c4b7dcccf3fc1c093416735f01de

All points to:

"nforce2-no-disconnect-quirk.patch"

1. Anybody have tried this patch, or know if this should be included in
2.6.X ?

2. It seems like 2.6.8 dont have libata compiled in the kernel ?

3. When working with patch files, I often copy/paste from web pages and
seems to get errors applying that I guess comes from formating issues.
Best practice ?

4. I guess and simple solution would be to buy an promise controller and
disable the onboard SATA ?

Debug info:

Mostly using 2.6.7-2-k7 kernel, or custom compiled on source 2.6.8
(2.6.8-12).
