Re: Pondering a mac mini.



the biggest thing is probably wine. If you like to use Crossover
Office for instance, that isn't going to work under PPC.

Anything open source, is available under Debian PPC just the same as
Debian x86.  This means, Gnome, KDE, openoffice, mozilla, firefox,
thunderbird, gimp etc.

I've got a G4 ibook with Debian PPC on it, and I like it alot..
however I will say that with Mac OS X being BSD based, I kinda like it
as well. I run a dual boot on it.

I can run most of the open source software on Mac OS AND on Linux PPC.
(I've got gimp for  both OSes for example)

you can also run "mol" (Mac On Linux) which allows you to run OS X in
a virtual machine under Linux PPC (with not much of a slowdown given
enough ram)

All in all, my mac makes a very nice Linux box and has the cool OS X
software I can run on it to boot.
