There are a few options. The mail matlab replacements are scilib and 
octave.

Other options which I haven't tried but may do what you want:

maxima
yacas
axiom

perl pdl has a simple command line interface, possibly also the python 
alternative.

apt-cache search brings up a few more possible options when searching for 
matlab and mathematica.

bc may also do what you want.
