Make sure the number of keys is set correctly. On my german keyboard, I
have to use pc105 in the XFree configuration. Gnome also needs to be
configured for 105 keys. pc104 does cause the same problem. There is an
explanation in the Debian X FAQ (/usr/share/doc/xfree86-common/), IIRC.
