what is the output of:

start with 1024x768 for its screen size in 16bits 
	- /etc/X11/XF86Config

	- take out all the junk that may be confusing your card

	- from non-x11 mode .. make X11 to generate a config file
	( "XFree86 -configure" and use that file instead )
