Yes, the Gnome "Keyboard Shortcuts" has a section "Sound" with 3 interesting elements, "Volume mute", "Volume down", "Volume up". I have them bound to F6, F7, F8. When I press any of these keys I get an on-screen display in the middle of the bottom half of my screen to give me feedback on the action, a volume indicating bar shortens and lengthens or the "notes" disappear from the icon when I press the "mute" key. So that all appears well, except this particular aspect of the system is changing the volume on the wrong channel of my device.

Where can I change this?
