No sound, cd

After help from the list, I was able to configure my OPL3SA2 sound
card with ALSA. Now, however, I cannot get the CDROM drive to play an
audio CD. Gnome-CD and Ascd see the music CD, read the title, and spin
the disk. But no sound. The sound modules are loaded, and alsamixer
has the levels properly adjusted.

I am not sure how, but at first, I could play CDs, at least from root.
I tried to add myself to the audio and cdrom groups, but I got the
message that I was already a member.

How do I get audio CDs to play? Is there something else to configure in ALSA?

My /etc/fstab:

proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hda2 / ext3 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1
/dev/hda3 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/hdd /media/cdrom0 iso9660 ro,user,noauto 0 0
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 auto rw,user,noauto 0 0
