Well, ~/.bashrc is executed for non login shell and ~/.bash_profile is
executed for login shell.

I don't recall what script is run by GDM, i'm tempted to say
~/.xsession but IIRC is deprecated. You should find the correct answer
in the X documentation (or FAQ)...
