dodgy sudo upgrade on woody ppc - echos processing

Hi

I don't think this is a ppc specific problem and so I'm posting here.

In response to the sudo security alert I've upgraded 1 sid workstation
and 3 woody servers (2 i386 and 1 ppc). All are fine except for the
woody ppc upgrade.

During "aptitude upgrade" dpkg couldn't write to its file because /var
was at 100% "no room left". The package installed but something was
awry. When running sudo I get the following before commands are
executed:

Looking at PWD=/var/mail...
Looking at PS1=\u@\h:\w\$ ...
Looking at USER=clive...
Looking at MAIL=/var/mail/clive...
Looking at LANG=C...
Looking at SSH_CLIENT=192.168.1.11 37884 22...
Looking at LOGNAME=clive...
Looking at SHLVL=1...
Looking at SHELL=/bin/bash...
Looking at HOME=/home/clive...
Looking at TERM=xterm...
Looking at PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/games...
Looking at SSH_TTY=/dev/pts/0...
Looking at _=/usr/bin/sudo...
Looking at OLDPWD=/home/clive...

Other than this sudo works fine AFAICT. I tried removing sudo and
purging the configuration files (dpkg -P sudo) and then reinstalling
(having cleaned /var to make room) but the problem remains. I tried to
find a configuration file for sudo but only came up with:
/etc/init.d/sudo
/etc/pam.d/sudo

neither of which seem a likely source of remedy. Nothing is showing up
in BUGS and I'm puzzled as to where to go from here ;)

Thanks

Clive
