I killed ghostscript -- "Error: /invalidfont in findfont"
Hi folks,
In a fit of madness, I went on a spree of reconfiguration and
reinstallation of font-related packages. Now, I've killed ghostscript.
Here's the error I get, both on firefox and enscript-created postscript
files:
Error: /invalidfont in findfont
Operand stack:

ESP Ghostscript 7.07.1: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1
Here's a transcript of the commands leading up to this calamity:
dpkg-reconfigure libfreetype6
dpkg-reconfigure libxft1
dpkg-reconfigure libxft2
dpkg-reconfigure libfontconfig1
dpkg-reconfigure defoma
defoma-reconfigure
freetype-config
dselect # updated, but didn't change any packages
dpkg-reconfigure libfreetype6
dpkg --purge --force-depends libfreetype6
apt-get install libfreetype6
dpkg --purge --force-depends libxft2
apt-get install libxft2
dpkg --purge --force-depends libxft1
apt-get install libxft1
dpkg --purge --force-depends defoma
apt-get install defoma
dpkg --purge --force-depends fontconfig
apt-get install fontconfig
I realize (the next morning) that ghostscript is hosed. My
unsuccessful attempts to fix the situation:
dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig
dpkg-reconfigure gs-common
dpkg-reconfigure gs-esp
dpkg-reconfigure gsfonts # complained "W: type1: Category not found."
dpkg --purge --force-depends gsfonts # didn't work, prerm script failed
apt-get install --reinstall gsfonts
dpkg-reconfigure gsfonts-x11
apt-get install --reinstall gsfonts-x11 freetype-config
defoma-reconfigure
dpkg-reconfigure psfontmgr
dpkg-reconfigure type1inst
dpkg-reconfigure x-ttcidfont-conf
dpkg-reconfigure xfonts-scalable
dpkg-reconfigure gs
dpkg-reconfigure defoma
psfontmgr
dpkg-reconfigure gsfonts # did not complain
All packages are current sarge as of a few days ago.
Help!
Reid
