OT: Video card not recognized on Gateway E-3400

This is off-topic for this list, but you folks have a lot of experience/knowledge, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

I've got a Gateway E-3400 computer. lspci output is as follows:

westk[@westek]:/home/westk:> lspci
0000:00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp. 82815 815 Chipset Host Bridge and Memory Controller Hub (rev 02)
0000:00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 82815 815 Chipset AGP Bridge (rev 02)
0000:00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 82801 PCI Bridge (rev 02)
0000:00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corp. 82801BA ISA Bridge (LPC) (rev 02)
0000:00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corp. 82801BA IDE U100 (rev 02)
0000:00:1f.2 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801BA/BAM USB (Hub #1) (rev 02)
0000:00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corp. 82801BA/BAM SMBus (rev 02)
0000:00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio (rev 02) 0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 PF/PRO AGP 4x TMDS 0000:02:0f.0 Ethernet controller: 3Com Corporation 3c905C-TX/TX-M [Tornado] (rev 78)

This board has a built-in i810/815-based AGP video circuit, that is turned off when a real AGP card is put into the AGP socket. The ATI is in the AGP socket. Both of these devices work as they should (output from the built-in when no expansion card; output from the expansion card but not from the built-in otherwise).

I've gotten a second video card, with which I was going to set up a dual-monitor box. It's a whitebox 64MB "BFG Asylum GeForce MX440-SE" card. This card works fine in dual-monitor setup in a Dell GX-270. However, this Gateway computer does not seem to recognize the card; at least, lspci does not see it. There were no options in the BIOS for choosing/setting anything related to PCI/AGP. I upgraded the BIOS to the newest version available from Gateway's web site, but that made no difference. Knoppix's version of lspci also does not see the card.

Anyone know of any glitches with this particular computer and video card, or have any suggestions?

Thanks!
