Seriously, though, it's my understanding that Unix-types haven't
worried as much about compressed filesystems because of pipes and
zlib1g.  

For example, OOo integrates zlib1g, whereas on Windows, you need 
to compress .doc/.xls/.csv/etc files at the FS level.

Another example: you've got a huge bz2 file compressed with rzip.
$ bzcat /data/files/billing_200407* | grep 'some re'
