Debian is free, period. For your information, it's very popular as well,
compared to many commercial competitors. It's done by volunteers, and
backed up by commercial entities because they want to see a good, free
system. Debian will never be for-profit, as far as I can see. It's not
about that.

Many businesses use Debian. If you need support and service, many 
companies will sell you support for Debian. If you are unsure, you can 
check out the many Debian-derived commercial distributions out there.
