Re: gdm and root
I have noticed these points too,
hence my email.
I guess that for, security reasons,
the policy in gdm.conf must be applied,
but why it is not applied by default.
As a matter of fact, I want the login greeter
to run xscreeensaver and I encounter some problem,
so I am investigating.

i *think* this is root because i manually started up gdm after boot (i
had to load an nvidia module manually).
also:
$ cat /etc/gdm/gdm.conf
<snip>
# User and group that gdm should run as. Probably should be gdm and gdm
and
# you should create these user and group. Anyone found running this as
# someone too privilaged will get a kick in the ass. This should have
# access to only the gdm directories and files.
