you have a few hours or a week before his dns info goes off the air
depending on the values you/he used in the dns records for the domain

yup .. you can setup your own dns but it would be meaningless if the
registrar of your-domain.com doesn't point to the new static ip# dns
server
 	- you have to tell themto point the dns to yoru new box
	( you need 2 of um so leave his as the secondary dns )

the simplest to look at and setup should be the one to use...
	- you have 5 minutes to do it

	which dns daemons and example conf files
	http://linux-sec.net/DNS

- if you're worried about security ... all other security
  precautions should also be in effect ..than you can worry about
  djbdns/chroot/etc
