I believe I am running it from inetd, because the following line is in
/etc/inetd:
smtp       stream  tcp     nowait  mail    /usr/sbin/exim exim -bs

I don't know enough to know how to know if I'm spawning lots of exim
processes; do I simply look at 'top' when checking email?  I tried
this, saw a process for fetchmail, and only briefly saw a process for
exim (although only a few emails were downloaded).
