Okay, the one thing you have not check is the config in /boot for the
the kernel you are currently running. If that config shows you have
those in there... then you are good. These are typically options that
are set that way in Debian Stock Kernels. Are you running Woody?

What probably has to happen is the modules need to be loaded to get the
features you want.

That is probably all it is. If not, then we can go on from there.
