This worked great.  I too got it to work with the bcmwl5.sys driver.

Thanks for the tip.

One question:  When the laptop is out of line of sight of the wireless
router, it still gets a good signal, but it perioccally will emit a low
purring/buzzing sound for about 1 second (almost like a warning signal
that I'm on the verge of losing the signal).  Anyone have any idea what
this purring sound is, and more importantly, how to turn it off?
