It is still possible to burn the structure of a boot CD without the
boot block and get the /syslinux directory. Testing for the directory
alone is not enough.

I don't believe that they are different schemes - if you really think
so please provide a link to more info.

If the original ISO had a torito boot block, then would doing this
damage it? I'm guessing no.
