No, this is not true. In theory a Linux system can become infected by a
computer virus. However, the following must be considered:

1) If a Linux system did become infected by a virus, the scope of damage the
virus could cause would be very limited (unless root was infected).

2) The most common Windows mail clients and office suites suffer from basic
design flaws that make them virus-prone - the Linux equivalents do not.

2) Over 90% of all known viruses (and every virus currently considered
common) run only on Windows. Linux is immune to all of these viruses.

3) In at least the last five years (perhaps even ten), Linux has not seen a
virus that has infected a significant number of hosts.

Given this, while Linux is not immune to all viruses, it is very
virus-resistant (compared to Windows), and the probability of a virus
infecting a Linux system is very small - almost negligible.
