I've never tinkered with sound on a PPC, so can't really offer much 
guidance, but you might try "modprobe" instead of "insmod".

Also, there's a Debian PowerPC list that might have folks that will be 
better able to answer your questions (http://www.debian.org/ports/powerpc/).
