What does `iwconfig' tell you? Before `modprobe ndiswrapper' I have:
dfokkema@sirius:dfokkema$ sudo iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
After modprobing ndiswrapper, I have
dfokkema@sirius:dfokkema$ sudo iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
wlan0 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:""
