I did an "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade" a couple of days ago,
and have lost my GB keyboard, so my @ is " and \ is where # should
be, etc.

XFree86.0.log contains the line:
Couldn't load XKB keymap, falling back to pre-XKB keymap

setxkbmap with or without options gives me:
Error loading new keyboard description

I have tried applying the unfuck_numlock patch I found via
Googling, and restarted X, but it had no visible effect.
