I've just got my sound card working by installing the 2.6.6 kernel. I've
been using xmms to play some mp3s. But I can't play and audio CD's.

On checking the drive I get the error

"Failed to open device /dev/cdrom1
Error: Permission denied
Directory /mnt/dvd OK."

look at the message, you don't have permission, try ls -la /dev/cdrom1 and ls-la
/dev/hdc. I know you're a menber of audio group, but you must find why
don't you have permission. Did you try to use /dev/cdrom like a link of /dev/hdc
instead /dev/cdrom1?

good luck,
