Yes, by 1776, but not 1760. A lot of the "star guys" started out like
Gorbachev's, fiercly patriotic Brits who were trying to save Britain's
empire from pigheaded decisions.
The original petitions were all made in this spirit.
Only when the pigheads told them to go take a flying leap did they give
up on the Empire.
