I use a Elsa Microlink 56MC Internet (card modem) - and it worked out of the box with
woody's pcmcia support.

"cardctl ident" gives me:

Socket 0:
  product info: "Elsa", "MicroLink 56k MC Internet", "021", "A"
  manfid: 0x0013, 0x0000
  function: 2 (serial)
