Help: DHCP Network is down

I have a Debian build that was connected to a network with a DHCP server. I
upgraded the distro to testing/unstable and now it can't see the network. In
fact the error I am getting is:

>ifup eth0
Internet Software Consortium DHCP Client V3.0.1rc13

For info, please visit http://www.isc.org/products/DHCP

Listening on LPF/eth0/00:0b:cd:6d:e4:8a
Sending on LPF/eth0/00:0b:cd:6d:e4:8a
Sending on Socket/fallback
DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 3
send_packet: Network is down
receive_packet failed on eth0: Network is down
DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 6
send_packet: Network is down
receive_packet failed on eth0: Network is down
etc...

My /etc/network/interfaces has:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Can anyone suggest anything to try. I've Googled and can find some references
to these error messages, but not found any solutions.

Cheers,

Ben
