ALSA ok, but no sound
Hi list,
I'm trying to set up alsa on my Dell latitude d800 laptop. I'm running a custom
kernel, since I couldn't get the NVIDIA module working with any stock debian
kernel, and I need them for my WXGA screen.
Anyway, I managed to compile the needed modules and load them, here's an lsmod
snippet:
Module Size Used by Tainted: P
snd-seq 39984 0 (autoclean)
prism2_cs 69776 2
p80211 25884 0 [prism2_cs]
nvidia 1966400 7 (autoclean)
snd-intel8x0 20260 1
snd-ac97-codec 49788 0 [snd-intel8x0]
snd-pcm 64448 1 [snd-intel8x0]
snd-timer 15748 0 [snd-seq snd-pcm]
snd-page-alloc 6740 0 [snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm]
snd-mpu401-uart 3792 0 [snd-intel8x0]
snd-rawmidi 14048 0 [snd-mpu401-uart]
snd-seq-device 4340 0 [snd-seq snd-rawmidi]
snd 33668 0 [snd-seq snd-intel8x0 snd-ac97-codec snd-pcm
snd-timer snd-mpu401-uart snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device]
bcm5700 97508 1
And /proc/asound seems fine to:
random:/usr/share/sounds# cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [I82801DBICH4 ]: ICH - Intel 82801DB-ICH4
Intel 82801DB-ICH4 at 0xf4fff800, irq 11
random:/usr/share/sounds# cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.3.
Compiled on May 14 2004 for kernel 2.4.21-rc2-ac2 (SMP) with versioned symbols.
Unfortunately, no sound is produced at all. I've double checked that the sound
isn't muted (with alsamixer) but it's ok. PLaying a sound doesn't give any
errors either.
Any idea how I can make sure the thing actually works?
TIA
joost
