Actually you only need the headers package for you kernel.

apt-get install kernel-headers-2.4.18-bf2.4

VMware's install will find them easily automagically.

Also get it:
http://packages.debian.org/stable/devel/kernel-headers-2.4.18-bf2.4

and then dpkg -i kernel-headers--2.4.18-bf2.4

Either way, is all you need.
