Describe these "programs".  Are they servers/daemons that start when
the box boots, or are they apps that start when you login?

 - daemons: ftpd, sshd, NFS/NIS, Samba, ...

 - apps: Mozilla, xplanetbg, emacs, xterm/kterm/rxvt/gnome-terminal, ...
