This brings up another question: when I do apt-get -s --purge remove xdm", it tells me it's going also to remove x-window-system (in addition to xdm).   x-window-system is a meta package, so will it just remove that meta package and leave the individual packages alone (so x still functions), or will I need to reinstall the x-window-system again, (or the individual packages) individually after that?

Thanks for your help,
-Jerry
