New Debian Installer... Grub problems...

Well the new installer seems to work great ... except its doing nothing for me since the boot loader isnt working... no matter what i tell grub (take in mind everytime i give it i new install path I have to redo the whole install (bug problem I assume)) it will not work.... I tried everything from (hd0) - (hd5) and /dev/sda /dev/sdb3  and I get nothing.

Here is my drive configuration

hda
WD 180 > all one partition NTFS all my windows storage

sda
IBM labeled fujitsu 36gig 15,000 rpm scsi  (id 0) Windows boot... main drive.... (original boot loaded from windows now with broken lilo from last debian install that went to hell...)

sdb
Wd 9gig 10,000 rpm scsi (id4)
I believe /dev/sdb3  (6.2 gigs) is where root is....  (i booted knoppix and checked what drive all the system files were on)
/dev/sdb1 (500 megs)  = /var
/dev/sdb2 (2.1 gigs) = /home

When the current lilo boots if I boot Linux is gives me a kernal panix it says:

Please edit "root=" option
cant mount root drive blah blah

I tried doing: Linux root=/dev/sda
Linux root=/dev/sda1
Linux root=/dev/sdb1
Linux root=/dev/sdb2
Linux root=/dev/sdb3

I turned up with nothing each time. I cannot stand windows... its awful. The whole concept just bothers me. Just happens I run lan parties and happen to be a gamer.

I can use any input I can get....

Thanks

Thomas
