To probably save you from doing so again, you could set
|Aptitude::AutoClean-After-Update true
in your aptitude config, see /usr/share/doc/aptitude, or
|DSelect
|{
| Clean "auto";
|}
in your apt.conf, see /usr/share/doc/apt
