32 MB are plenty for Debian itself. I'm running Woody on an i386SX 16
MHz with 4 MB RAM without problems (installing was another matter, as
the installer needs more RAM).

The 2.4 kernel-images use initrd (initial RAM-disk), which means that
you'll have to make the proper entry in lilo.conf. But the upgrade
process will remind you of that anyway ;)

is what it'll look like.

Just run `mkboot` prior to upgrading, then you can always boot from
floppy in case something breaks.
