Re: Graphical, functional, up-to-date MUA?

Try Thunderbird. If you add the enigmail plugin you get good gpg support and can have s/mime as well.

I'm still looking for a MUA that I really like. So far, I've tried
KMail, Mozilla Mail and sylpheed-claws.

KMail is right out because it is a pain to get proper GPG handling with
the Aegypten plugins which don't seem to be in debian.

sylpheed-claws is much better but the debian packages are severely
outdated (looking at the bug reports, I'd think it's a candidate for
deletion from the distribution) and the current version has some
shortcomings like a really slow spamassassin plugin which takes up to 30
seconds per message while spamc with the same spamd has no perceivable
delay or runtime.

I don't like Mozilla mail for *some* reason, it's personal ;-)

Evolution is a bit too overpowered for my needs, a simple "apt-get
install evolution" results in this:

Need to get 12.6MB of archives.
After unpacking 37.5MB of additional disk space will be used.

which is quite close to this: http://bash.cx/?29888
