Ok. I looked at that file but I wasn't sure if the changes it mentioned
were specific to the Debian version or the current kernel version in
general.

I just compiled the 2.6.3 kernel from kernel.org and it all went fine.
Except I got the same problem as last time where the EXTRAVERSION you
provide with --append-to-version doesn't seem to be used when compiling
the Nvidia kernel module from nvidia-kernel-source. It complains about
the UTS_VERSION string not matching expectations. It's all described at:

Maybe that has something to do with the /usr/src/linux symlink.
