It just occured to me that I could have done the following instead of
pestering the list:

home:/usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.24-2/drivers/sound# grep i810 Makefile
obj-$(CONFIG_SOUND_ICH)         += i810_audio.o ac97_codec.o
