RE: NEED HELP: ...installing SoundBlaster Live! DRIVER
Forgive my possible ignorance, I haven't been tracking this conversation
from the start, however I've just recently learned that there are OEM SB
Live! cards that came prebuilt in Dell computers - these are extremely picky
to get working under any flavor of Linux, and require the commercial
OSS/Linux (not the OSS/Free included in the kernel) and even then they're
not fully supported (SPDIF in out is tricky, the readme included in OSS
says).
Here in Germany I've read of cases where Dell took them back because users
were unable to update the card's drivers in any way (Creative Labs wouldn't
give any support, and the normal SB Live! drivers would refuse to install
saying there's no SB Live! installed).
I'm unsure how to identify and separate that kind from normal cards, if need
be I could investigate though.
