I don't remember exactly where, but there is a readme file in the mplayer sources, plus their site has howto's and FAQ's.Where do I install the skins, please?
If you're trying to get the graphical player, then type gmplayer, not mplayer. This assumes you compiled mplayer correctly, ie "./configure --enable-gui".
In short, the README file in the top level folder of the sources is an invaluable source of information.
