You should set in the Configured Mouse or Generic Mouse a line like this:
Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
This sets the mouse's protocol.

You should put Your user in the group audio, and then (I think :-) it will work.
(you should read the man page of group(5))

Just type in:
# sudo /sbin/halt
(make sure that you're a sudoer (edit /etc/sudoers))
