kernel 2.4.18 crash with alsa 1.0.1 (snd-au8820)

All,

 I believe I have a crash with alsa 1.0.1 on kernel 2.4.18.

Here is what happened.

I took alsa-driver-1.0.1.tar.bz2 from ALSA site and followed the instruction to build/install under "Aureal Generic" document (readme that comes when you search for aureal cards). I did not create ~/.asoundrc (but a kernel crash cannot be because of that)

After than I did a rmmod of au8820.o (binary only version that I have had for some time that I do not remmeber origin)
 modprobe snd-au8820
 modprobe snd-seq-oss

 mpg123 <some mp3 file>

The system simply freezes and I have to powerdown/reset depending upon if from inside X or console. When rmmod au8820.o I get the following. I am not sure if this is significant.

Jan 15 22:01:41 lata kernel: Trying to free nonexistent resource <f4000000-f403ffff> Jan 15 22:01:41 lata kernel: Trying to free nonexistent resource <00001438-0000143f> Jan 15 22:01:41 lata kernel: Trying to free nonexistent resource <00001430-00001437>
    Jan 15 22:01:41 lata kernel: au88xx: Unloaded.

Unfortuately I do not know what info I can offer for you to figure out further. Since I get a freeze and reset I get quite a few fsck errors in /var partitiion, if this is of any help.

BTW, I also go through modprobe'ing entire set (snd-au8820, snd_pcm-oss, snd-mixer-oss,snd-seq-oss) and get the same result.

Thanks and Regards
Ramesh
