Re: Hylafax help

dean-

you may find this page http://ralphie.perlmonk.org/mosix/hylafax.html
to be helpful. i wrote it some time ago, but it looks to be still
pertinent.

Whoops.  Sorry all.

I know how to use apt-get. I was just trying to show the simpler
output of dpkg.

It doesn't matter if I use

sudo apt-get install hylafax-client hylafax-server hylafax-doc

or if I download the .debs and then install with

sudo dpkg -i hylafax-client_4.1.1-3_i386.deb
hylafax-server_4.1.1-3_i386.deb

The result is still

~ > ls -l /etc/hylafax/
total 12
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root         1906 Oct 12  1998

-rw-r--r--    1 root     root         2150 Oct 12  1998
dialrules.sf-ba.dpkg-dist
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           12 Jan  7 16:14 egetty-link ->

lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           12 Jan  7 16:14 getty-link ->

lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           16 Jan  7 16:14 vgetty-link ->

/usr/sbin/vgetty*

That bunches of stuff that are in the .deb packages don't get
installed.

./var/spool/hylafax/etc -> /etc/hylafax

What is happening to /etc/hylafaxhosts.hfaxd?
Where is /etc/hylafax/hfaxd.conf being installed?
Why is /etc/hylafax/lutRS18.pcf nowhere to be found on the filesystem
after the install?

Without those files, hylafax is useless. I _could_ just unpack the
.debs and
install the files by hand, but that just defeats the point of a package

manager
(not to mention it might be glossing over something seriously hosed
with my
system)
