Monique, thank you.  Your reply made me found the problem.  I didn't have 
razor installed, but then I don't have it on any of my machines running 
spamassassin.

After doing an "apt-get install razor"  I get the following when starting 
spamd (in a console, instead of in the mail log (?)):

Failed to run RAZOR_CHECK SpamAssassin test, skipping:
        (Can't locate object method "check_razor" via package 
"Mail::SpamAssassin::PerMsgStatus" (perhaps you forgot to load 
"Mail::SpamAssassin::PerMsgStatus"?) at /usr/share/perl5/Mail/SpamAssassin/
PerMsgStatus.pm line 2235.
)

but also:

Failed to run BALANCE_FOR_LONG SpamAssassin test, skipping:
        (Can't locate object method "check_for_very_long_text" via package

and a bunch of other similar messages for different tests.  

BUT they all have same problem relating to PerMsgStatus.pm line 2235.  The 
module is on my hard disc, right where the error message says it should be, 
but obviously it's not working correctly.

Does it have to be loaded in some special way?
