Where is this file located (what directory)?
My first guess is that your MTA is using a different aliases file than
the one(s) you are looking at. That would be caused by a
configuration error. I've never heard of sm-mta before, so I can't
help you with the actual configuration. Hopefully the above will be
enough of a pointer in the right direction for you to solve this
issue.
