Is it just me or is it hard to find a good external hardware modem

I'm looking for one for a friend that's using Linux and not ready to pay
for broadband yet. He needs a non-pcmcia, preferably external but PCI
will work as well, 56k call waiting modem.

Any suggestions? (Yes, I've read the supported devices lists on various
websites and browsed through various websites selling hardware, but I'm
curious to hear what others are using.)

TIA,
Jacob

Windows 98 hasn't crashed for me once in over a year, either. Oh, wait,
I haven't booted it in over a year.

I have an USRobotics 56K external modem. Smartest thing I ever bought, since broadband will never get here. Debian immediately knows of it. It is 2x the cost of an internal one, but well worth the price. I will never buy an internal modem again.

Hugo.
