..we understand each other this far. My understanding is you have
failed to provide a viable root device, and instead gave it /dev/fd0,
which you tells us it prompt you for.
..you have done the iso-burning part correctly, AFAICT.
..you screwed up the boot command line in the booting image,
loopmount them and compare'm with the the original boot images.

commands available.
..on booting your cd, try play with my append root dev suggestion.
