UI Test Automation tools

  I am a newcomer to the world of free software and GNU.

 

I need some information regarding open source test tools available for testing UI applications on Debian Linux and automating it.Through internet I could find a tool like XNEE which  does the recording, replay and distribution of user actions under the X11 environment. But, our requirement is to test the whole UI application itself. Will gnee tool help in this testing requirement? Please give us some suggestions in this regard.
