cannot uninstall nedit

Hey everyone,

 I am having the same problems as the bugs:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=213325
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=214808

Which means that I am uninstall nedit. When I try to using dpkg or apt-get (I even tried "synaptic"!); I get the following error which is identical to bug reports:

=================apt-get remove --purge nedit =========================
(Reading database ... 114497 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing nedit ...
update-alternatives: --slave only allowed with --install

Debian update-alternatives 1.10.15.

Usage: update-alternatives --install <link> <name> <path> <priority>
                          [--slave <link> <name> <path>] ...
       update-alternatives --remove <name> <path>
       update-alternatives --remove-all <name>
       update-alternatives --auto <name>
       update-alternatives --display <name>
       update-alternatives --list <name>
       update-alternatives --config <name>
       update-alternatives --set <name> <path>
       update-alternatives --all
<name> is the name in /etc/alternatives.
<path> is the name referred to.
<link> is the link pointing to /etc/alternatives/<name>.
<priority> is an integer; options with higher numbers are chosen.

Options:  --verbose|--quiet  --test  --help  --version
          --altdir <directory>  --admindir <directory>
dpkg: error processing nedit (--purge):
 subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
 nedit
======================================================================

I couldn't find the link for nedit in the "editor" alternative when I tried to remove nedit manually. ("update-alternatives --remove ...."

At the very least, I should be able to uninstall a program that I don't want! Anyone have any ideas? Both bugs are still open.
