I believe that the 'demand' option for pppd will give you equivalent functionality to diald at rather less complexity. I messed with diald way back in the dark ages (1997/98) and never got it working satisfactorially. I largely use manually triggered pppd (pon/poff) now. Peace. -- Karsten M.
