sound problems

I just installed Debian via the new debian installer. The auto-detection was very slick. One thing that didn't work however, is my sound. I have a Soundblaster Live Value card. I installed alsa-modules-2.4.22-1-i386 but ran into the following errors:
Attempting to start.

depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.22-1-386/alsa/snd-pdaudiocf.o
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.22-1-386/alsa/snd-vx-cs.o

Shutting down ALSA (unknown version): not running
Starting ALSA (version 0.9.6): emu10k1-failed failed
invoke-rc.d: initscript alsa, action "restart" failed.
dpkg: error processing alsa-modules-2.4.22-1-386 (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
alsa-modules-2.4.22-1-386
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I do know that /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer are both under the audio group and I added myself to that group. Still no sound. Any pointers would be awesome.
